As Chloe already posted, we are moving to Jacksonville,
Florida. I have accepted an awesome job opportunity to work at Biomet
Microfixation. I will be a Product Development Engineer on the Rapid Response
team.
A little bit about the company and what I will be doing.
Biomet is an international orthopedic device company (spine,
hip, knee, etc…). My division, Biomet Microfixation, focuses on craniomaxillofacial
and thoracic products. This means that we will be designing metal/polymer
devices for face, jaw, skull, and chest reconstruction to replace damaged or
missing bone (trauma, birth defect, cancer, etc...).
Zoomed further into Biomet Microfixation is my team,
Rapid Response. This is a dedicated team of engineers with rapid prototyping
and manufacturing capability to produce completely patient matched custom
implants in an extremely accelerated timeframe, 2-3 weeks.
Here is the blurb from their website:
“Designed using anatomical models and extensive surgeon
input, Biomet Microfixation prebent plates provide an alternative to traditional
mandibular reconstruction techniques. Ready-for-placement plates enhance the
accuracy of reconstruction procedures with pre-operative planning and
exceptional fit while also providing significant time savings.
Collaborative Approach: Surgeon input enhances the implant design to more accurately reflect operative plans for reconstruction
Anatomical Fit: Plates are prebent using patient-matched anatomical models
May Reduce O.R. Time: Eliminates the need for complex intra-operative bending”

We also design specialized instruments requested by
surgeons.
